How long to broil trout in oven?
- Turn your oven on to broil, and place your fillets on a broiler pan, then place the broiler pan in the oven so the fillets are 4 to 5 inches below the heat source. Broil the fillets for 8 to 10 minutes, without turning. If your broiling basted trout, baste the fish at least once during broiling.
- Pull the head back towards the spine to break the neck. Hold the trout’s head in one hand and bend it backward.
- Slit underneath the ribs with a fillet knife to separate the bones from the meat. Start your blade on the inside of the fish near the head.
- Poke the knife through the trout’s neck and cut along the spine.
- Remove the front fins and head. Set the trout upside down so the meat of the fillets is facing up.
- Cut out the dorsal fin between the fillets. Run your knife along the top of each fillet where it connects to the dorsal fin.
